Book Review: A Perfect Gentle Knight by Kit Pearson
This story is based in the 1950s with the Bell children: Roz, Sebastian, Harry, Juliet, Orly and Corrie. After the death of their mother in a car accident, their father escapes into his work and slowly becomes very reclusive. The children seek refuge in their childhood fantasy game of the Round Table to comfort themselves. Eldest daughter, Roz is getting too old for the game, while eldest brother Sebastian continues to need it to escape reality and drag his siblings down with him This causes even more tension in the family. That leaves poor 11-year-old Corrie to try to keep the family together, while juggling her own feelings of sadness and fright, her new friends and her new efforts to come back into the world of reality.
This was an amazing book about a family doing all they can to keep it together in a time where nothing seems to go right for them. You will fall in love with Corrie for her unique perception of the world she's in and, at the same time, for how human a child she really is.
