Tech Talk: Librarything
What the heck is this?
Go to the library homepage and click on Bookpicks 2010, and you'll notice this fancy widget[1]:
What is Librarything?
Simply put, it is an online web application that allows you to catalogue your books. You don't need to give them any personal information- you just need to make a username and password. Once you're signed up, you can start adding your books. You can review them, rate them, comment on them, see other people's libraries, and connect with other users. Kind of like a Facebook for booklovers!
How I use librarything for Trafalgar School for Girls Library
Since the beginning of the year I have been using librarything to create nice-looking displays (widgets) on the Traf library pages. At the moment, I am using it to show off your 2010 Book Picks!

How I use librarything for my own books!
I have been a personal member of librarything for about 3 years now. Because my memory is like a sieve, I use it to list the books that I've read. Every time I finish a book, I just go to my librarything page, click on "Add Books" and write the title in the search box. It then lists my choices on the right hand side. I click on the right edition, give it a tag (eg. Fiction, Science-fiction, etc.) and rate the book. So far I have 273 books in my library, all of them read since I joined!
